Haryana spoiled Orissa`s bid for a hat-trick of titles by pipping the last two year`s champions 5-4, via tie-breaker in the ninth edition of the Junior Girls National Football Championship at Chandigarh today.
Tie-break was applied after play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw. This was Haryana`s made maiden entry into the final, where they would meet five-time champions Manipur on July 30. Earlier in first semifinal, Manipur prevailed over Sikkim 3-0.
Orissa started their campaign on a dashing note, drubbing Karnataka 9-0 and 13-0 in their two Cluster-V league matches. The two sides faced each other twice as Jammu & Kashmir, the third team in the cluster, failed to appear.
In the quarterfinal league, Orissa asserted their supremacy in the first two matches, trouncing Maharashtra 5-0 and Bengal 7-0. But they finished second in the four-team quarterfinal league table, losing to Manipur 1-2 in the third match. The first set-back was followed by elimination as they lost Haryana in the semifinals, giving their opponents a maiden chance to reach the final.
Over all, Orissa played six matches, won four and lost two. They scored a total of 39 goals, four through penalty kicks. Jabamani Soren emerged as the highest scorer of Orissa with 12 goals, followed by Deogi Murmu, Lochana Munda (5 each);
Janjali Sahoo (3); Sasmita Ghatuari, Kunti Kumari (2), Pratima Minz (2 each) and Rashmita Patra, Gomati Bara, Pratima Soren, Manisha Tirkey (1 each).
